First E-DATA Sustainability Insights Workshop a Success in Derry~Londonderry
The first E-DATA Sustainability Insights Workshop was successfully delivered this week at the Waterfoot Hotel in Derry~Londonderry, bringing together SMEs from across the region for an engaging and practical session focused on turning sustainability into a business advantage.
The interactive workshop provided attendees with clear, actionable guidance on how sustainability can support cost control, resilience, and long-term competitiveness.
Embedding Sustainability in SMEs
Throughout the session, participants explored key sustainability concepts and examined how collecting and analysing data can drive measurable improvements within their businesses. Through hands-on exercises and practical discussions, SMEs worked through how to embed sustainability into everyday operations — not as an added burden, but as a structured and manageable process. The workshop emphasised that sustainability is not just about compliance – it is about using data to measure, manage, and improve performance.
Using Data to Drive Efficiency
A key theme of the session was the role of data in sustainability and efficiency. Attendees explored how businesses can:
- Establish a baseline to understand their starting point
- Use monitoring and targeting to reduce waste and improve efficiency
- Identify anomalies that may signal inefficiencies or unnecessary costs
- Set realistic targets aligned to clear sustainability goals
Participants gained a clearer understanding of how data-led decision-making can reduce waste, improve resource management, and support smarter business operations.
Key Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, attendees were able to:
- Understand sustainability and the benefits of implementation
- Recognise the role of data in driving efficiency and cost savings
- Access practical tools to create a Sustainability Action Plan
Feedback from the session was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees highlighting the workshop’s hands-on approach, practical ideas, and the value of the efficiency toolkit provided. An SME, who had previously attended our roadshow, expressed interest in progressing through the full E-DATA support pathway to further strengthen their digital and sustainability capability.
The session not only increased awareness but also equipped businesses with the tools and confidence to take meaningful first steps on their sustainability journey.
